BEIJING (AFP) — Jamaican Usain Bolt broke the men’s 200 metres world record here on Wednesday timing 19.30 seconds as he clinched the Olympic Games gold to add to his 100m crown.

Jamaica’s 100 metres Olympic champion Usain Bolt stayed on course in his bid to become the first athlete since Carl Lewis in 1984 to do the sprint double as he won his 200m semi-final in confident fashion.

BEIJING: The world knows that he is lightning quick on the track. There are two world records as proof.

Usain Bolt, the sprint champion in the Olympic Games, wants to be known as ‘Lightning Bolt’, the media nickname that has been given to him even before he reached Beijing.

Thrilled to break the world record on the eve of his 22nd birthday, Bolt was reacting to the former 200m world record holder Michael Johnson calling him as the Superman.

“I am Lightning Bolt! I am not Flash Gordon or anybody. My name is Bolt, Lightning Bolt”, said Bolt, as he addressed the media after the historic 200m race that he won at 19.30, a new world record.

Michael Johnson had agreed that Bolt would take his record one day, but did not expect that to be in Beijing.

Usain Bolt prepares for the Olympic Trials. Last month, the Jamaican sprinter broke the world 100 meter record, more or less on a whim, as he ran the distance to sidestep his coach’s request to run the 400 meters as training. Experts consider 100 meters ill-suited for taller athletes because of the premium placed on exiting the blocks quickly. At 6′5” tall and rising, Bolt holds the fastest times on the year in both events. [Usain Bolt, 100 Meter Record Holder]: “Yes in my mind I think I can do it. The 100 to me is not that hard but the rounds may be different….. I’m waiting for my coach to see how I handle the rounds after the trials. I’m really looking forward to it and waiting for the decision.” Bolt will run both races at the Jamaican trials in Kingston, and will leave the tough decision about Beijing with Glen Mills, his coach.
And in Euro 2008, today’s match with Germany and Turkey you don’t want to miss. Germany is in fit and in form, while the world has witnessed Turkey pulling off some miracles to reach the final-four. But, publicly, coach Fatih Terim does not want the term miracle being used.

Turkey is without four players that are suspended and their captain who is injured.

“Of course, football is important if you play it well, you do well. And, if you play it well you get good results but nothing is a miracle. As I said before, I don’t believe in miracles.”
Mind you, Turkey beat Switzerland in the last minute, scored three times in the final 15 minutes to beat the Czech’s and leveled against Croatia with the last kick of the quarterfinal, winning a penalty shootout.
